Toward a Methodology for AI Architecture Evaluation: Comparing Soar and CLIPS

چکیده
We propose a methodology that can be used to compare and evaluate Artificial Intelligence architectures and is motivated by fundamental properties required by general intelligent systems. We examine an initial application of this method used to compare Soar and CLIPS in two simple domains. Results gathered from our tests indicate both qualitative and quantitative differences in these architectures and are used to explore how aspects of the architectures may affect the agent design process and the performance of agents implemented within each

Synthetic Adversaries for Urban Combat Training
82 AI MAGAZINE ■ This article describes requirements for synthetic adversaries for urban combat training and a prototype application, MOUTBots. MOUTBots use a commercial computer game to define, implement, and test basic behavior representation requirements and the Soar architecture as the engine for knowledge representation and execution. The article describes how these components aided the de...
متن کاملInteractive Form-Generation in High-Performance Architecture Theory
Architecture as a designerly way of thinking and knowing is to interact with its environment. The manuscript is to speculate “interactive form-generation” based on high-performance architecture theory, and discuss the precursors and the potentials. The research aims to explore and determine the roots, aspects of interactive architecture as a part of performance-based design in contemporary arch...
متن کاملAI Characters and Directors for Interactive Computer Games
We are creating an environment for investigating the role of advanced AI in interactive, story-based computer games. This environment is based on the Unreal Tournament (UT) game engine and the Soar AI engine. Unreal provides a 3D virtual environment, while Soar provides a flexible architecture for developing complex AI characters. This paper describes our progress to date, starting with our gam...
متن کاملA Standard Model of the Mind: Toward a Common Computational Framework across Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, and Robotics
A standard model captures a community consensus over a coherent region of science, serving as a cumulative reference point for the field that can provide guidance for both research and applications, while also focusing efforts to extend or revise it. Here we propose developing such a model for humanlike minds, computational entities whose structures and processes are substantially similar to th...
متن کاملControl in Act-R and Soar
The last decade has seen the emergence of a variety of cognitive architectures. This is good news, in general, for cognitive modeling, because architectures provide a readymade set of tools and theoretical constraints that can— according to architectural research methodology—assist the cognitive modeling enterprise by constraining the possible models of a set of phenomena or even making the “ri...
